What if the true bible was rewritten by someone in the past?

When i look into research about who created the bible.All i get is the holy spirit and men chosen by god to write his will.Even states that the original scrolls and artifacts about the bible were lost in time but most were recovered to be written over again by numerous writers....What if someone added what they wanted into the bible for their own selfish gain for people to follow their will...Like the stories they have in the old testament is very wrong towards women and alot of torture and cruelty but i do follow stories on Revelations and the story of Jesus. I do believe in god and christ but i believe that the true bible isn't what the bible is today...
